Iridescent Butterfly
Project LeadMoth Quantum ยท brand animation
An iridescent butterfly brand animation for Moth Quantum, with the wing color generated using quantum computing. I ran project management and delivery; a collaborating artist led the 3D and shader work.
Section A-A, The piece
An iridescent butterfly, brought to life
A brand animation for Moth Quantum: a butterfly whose wings shift through real structural color as the camera moves, built as motion identity for a quantum-software company.

Section B-B, The brief
Motion identity for a quantum brand
Moth Quantum needed a signature animation that felt scientific and alive rather than generic. The concept: a butterfly that starts as a plain render and then blooms into physically accurate iridescence, echoing the physics the company works in.

Section C-C, The science
Structural color, quantum-computed
The iridescence is not a painted texture. A custom shader reads look-up tables generated with quantum computing, simulating how light interferes with layered microstructure. The color is computed physics rather than hand-painted, the same effect that makes real butterfly wings shimmer.
My role
Project management and direction
I ran the project end to end: scoping the deliverable with the client, directing the creative, writing the rendering and delivery specs, coordinating the technical artist, and managing revisions to final sign-off. The 3D modeling and shader development were done by a collaborating graphics artist.

Section E-E, Delivery
Delivered across every format
Final assets shipped in multiple formats and both black and transparent backgrounds, ready for web, video, and marketing use, composited from three rendered segments with transitions from plain to full iridescence.
